20 Million More Uninsured Under McCain Plan

I don’t know about you, but this certainly doesn’t sound like the way to help cure our woefully inadequate health care system.

Here’s a quick synopsis:

  1. Under the McCain plan your employer provided health insurance would no longer be a tax-free benefit, but would be taxed as straight income.
  2. To help you pay for your health insurance, the plan would give tax credits of $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for families.  Oh, don’t forget tax credits come when you file your tax return so all the costs for insurance will be up front.
  3. The market will start vying for your health insurance coverage and you’ll be on your own to wade through hundreds of differing policies and premiums.
  4. Younger, healthier workers might opt out of the employer offered plans, leaving older, less healthy workers, further weakening the system.

Trust me, you don’t want to have to wade through hundreds of plans – we do that every December trying to decide in which Medicare plan to enroll.  It’s truly awful.

This plan isn’t a secret, and these details aren’t hidden anywhere.  No one is talking about it because we are being diverted by lipstick wearing pigs, Troopergate, Bridges to Nowhere, state funded tanning beds, and all sorts of other inconsequential garbage.

Psssttt.  Pass the word.
