Thomas Friedman on John McCain

It looks like McCain is beginning to lose his “media” fan base.  His willingness to sell his honor and soul to win the presidency is providing us with a second look at that maverick, John McCain.

Who cares how much steel John McCain has in his gut when the steel that today holds up our bridges, railroads, nuclear reactors and other infrastructure is rusting? McCain talks about how he would build dozens of nuclear power plants. Oh, really? They go for $10 billion a pop. Where is the money going to come from? From lowering taxes? From banning abortions? From borrowing more from China? From having Sarah Palin “reform” Washington — as if she has any more clue how to do that than the first 100 names in the D.C. phonebook?

America, are you paying attention?

  1. I’m finding it interesting that there is more and more notice being taken by the media as to the cost of all the promises and asking how either candidate is going to fund them.

  2. As it should be. I’ll admit I don’t have the fortitude to wade through pages and pages of policy papers, but I *think* I’ve read that Obama has put how he intends to pay for his policies on his website. (Or perhaps how he’d pay for some of them.)

  3. Problem is what he has there is unrealistic. Another problem is having it on a web site doesn’t get it out to enough of the voters. I think we sometimes forget that there are lots of people who don’t have computers and if they do, don’t spend the time on them we do!
