Congratulations Hawaii!

Yesterday and today we watched the 2008 Little League World Series on television and both games were the most exciting baseball we’ve seen in a few years.

Yesterday the kids from Hawaii came from behind to beat the Louisiana team 7-5.  I felt bad for the kids from Louisiana because everyone thought they would win so there were lots of tears on the team.  I understand the high of winning, and it was palpable on the faces of the Hawaiian youngsters because they were the underdogs.

But by the time you get to the championship game, I wish the families and coaches would stress having fun over the importance of winning.

Today the final game wasn’t even close and I think the final score was 12-3 so it never looked likely the Mexican team would win, thus no tears.

Bottom line was that these kids played their hearts out and I witnessed several outstanding plays. Home runs, great pitching, and fielding, and outstanding grace under pressure.

I would have been happy had either team won.
